By Margaret Oldfield and Nancy Hansen.

A book chapter about two women, one who aged into cognitive impairment (dementia) and one who aged with cognitive impairment. Margaret and Nancy address the ways that these women were stigmatized through exercises of power over them and how they responded to power through their agency. They propose alternatives that might reduce stigma against people with dementia and other sources of cognitive impairment and increase their agency. (Copyright: UBC Press. 2020. Chapter 8 in the Aging–Disability Nexus, edited by Katie Aubrecht, Christine Kelly and Carla Rice).
